Youth dies by suicide at minister\'s house in Nizamabad

Hyderabad: A 21-year-old worker died by suicide at the residence of minister V. Prashanth Reddy at his native Velpur mandal headquarters in Nizamabad district on Sunday. The deceased, identified as Devender of Velpur, was working in the minister's residence for a year.

The death of a youth in a minister’s house triggered much speculation, but Armoor assistant commissioner of police R. Prabhakar Rao told Deccan Chronicle that a failed love affair appeared to be the reason.

“We found chats, calls and voice messages with a girl over the deceased's cell phone,” Prabhakar Rao said. For the past week, Devender put ‘Rest in Peace’ as his status, the officer added.

He said that Devender’s relatives noticed his changed behaviour and spoke with him, the ACP said. On Saturday night, Devender made several calls but the girl did not respond, Prabhakar Rao said.

Following a complaint lodged by Devender’s mother, Velpur police registered a case and are investigating.
