Bengaluru: SUV driver roughed up for rash driving

Two popular Kannada film stars were also reportedly present in the SUV, but they fled after the accident.

Bengaluru: A 25-year-old man driving a high end Mercedez Benz SUV was roughed up by the public after it rammed into a van at South End Circle in Jayanagar late Wednesday.

Vishnu, who was driving the SUV in a rash manner, was also booked under Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act (NDPS), as the police found 300 grams of ganja in his vehicle. He is said to be the son of an industrialist.

Two popular Kannada film stars were also reportedly present in the SUV, but they fled after the accident. Police said that Vishnu and three others were in the SUV when the incident occurred.

Vishnu was allegedly driving the SUV recklessly and hit a Maruti Omni van around 12 midnight. Due to the impact, the van toppled and its five occupants sustained minor injuries.

They picked up a fight with Vishnu and passersby joined them. “Eyewitnesses allege that all the four occupants of the SUV were under the influence of alcohol and drugs. As they started arguing that it was not their fault, the public got furious and assaulted them. We learnt about the incident and rushed to the spot and seized the vehicles,” the Jayanagar traffic police said.

“It is also said that there were two popular Kannada film stars with Vishnu and they escaped as crowd gathered. We are gathering details regarding them. Vishnu and his friend were injured in the incident and are availing treatment. We are yet to ascertain whether he was under the influence of alcohol when the incident occurred,” the police added.
