Hyderabad: A 55-year-old woman was robbed at knifepoint in the outskirts of the city at Manchal mandal. The suspects threw chilli powder on the woman’s face, gagged her and snatched her four-and-a-half tolas of gold chain.

The incident took place during early hours on Friday, when Andalu, a resident of Nomula village went to the field to bring back the cattle that were left there for feeding.

As she was returning from the field along with the cattle, two unidentified persons attacked her. They pointed a knife at her and threw chilli powder on her face and then gagged her using a cloth to prevent her from raising alarm. The suspects snatched her gold chain and fled into the bushes.

Manchal inspector B. Anudeep said, “There were two suspects according to the victim. On seeing the knife, she panicked and before she could come out of the shock, they threw chilli powder at her and gagged her using a handkerchief which they were carrying.”

He said that the suspects did not use any vehicle and just ran into the bushes. “The suspects were waiting in the bushes for Andalu to come. They seemed to have closely monitored her movements and targetted her as she usually goes alone to the fields. They (snatchers) avoided taking the main road or any lanes in order to avoid surveillance,” said the inspector adding that a case of robbery has been registered.
