Residents with the meat recovered from two migrant labourers near Iritty on Friday.

Kannur: The Kuttiady police seized more than 200 kg of rotten meat from two migrant labourers at Irutty, Vilangad, near Nadapuram on Friday and took them into custody.  They told the police that  the meat was brought for adding to the shawarma and was to be supplied to the hotels around Vadakara. Food safety officials also reached the spot on the complaints of the residents.  They were identified as  Shahasad Ali (25), son of Rasaqat Ali and Nadeem (25), son of Abdul Majeed of UP.

The meat that was salted and kept in layers was first found by the locals and they questioned the duo.  They said that it  was brought from outside to be used as manure. On suspicion, they called the food safety officials and police, to whom the two confessed that it  was meant to be added to the layers of shawarma in hotels.  The goat meat and beef were salted along  with ammonia, said the officials.  The load was prepared in a makeshift shed in a secluded  plot at Irutty three months ago.
