Chennai: Man who jumped murder case bail held after 7 years
The accused was brought to the city on Saturday and was remanded to judicial custody.
Chennai: City police on Friday arrested an engineer seven years after he jumped bail in connection with the murder of an ATM security guard in 2007. ATM guard Ravi of Kancheepuram, was found dead outside the ATM near Ezhilagam campus near Chepauk in June 2007.
The Anna Square police investigating the case arrested the accused, Tietho Police Rhakao of Nagaland, who was working in a private firm in the city. Tietho had sought the help of the guard when his ATM card didn’t work. An argument broke out between them and in the melee, Tietho had pushed the guard down which led to his death.
Anna Square police arrested Tietho within a week then and after trial, he was granted bail in 2010. However, he went absconding after that, according to a police officer. Police sources said that city police commissioner A.K. Viswanathan while perusing the unsolved cases questioned officials about the case after which a special team was formed to trace the absconding accu-sed.
After sustained investigations, police found out that he was working in New Delhi and sent a team there. After he was not found there, he was picked up from his hideout in Nagaland on Friday. The accused was brought to the city on Saturday and was remanded to judicial custody.
