Hyderabad: Ex-Offical in evacuee scam held

It was alleged that Jain was paid Rs 25 lakh by Laxminara-yana. Jain claimed he did not receive all the money.

Hyderabad: The Hyderabad Central Crime Station sleuths probing the Rs 8,000-crore evacuee land scam arrested one D.K. Jain 85, a former employee of the evacuee land custodian office at the Union home ministry.

According to CCS deputy commissioner of police Avinash Mohanty, Jain was produced in the court and freed on bail on health grounds. Jain had confessed to giving the claim documents to another accused, C.R. Laxminarayana, regarding the evacuee land at Puppalaguda.

It was alleged that Jain was paid Rs 25 lakh by Laxminara-yana. Jain claimed he did not receive all the money. The team led by CCS ACP Mohammed Tajuddin is probing the case. Police is questioning officials of the Chief Commissioner of Land Administration office who processed the note file that reached IAS officials for the final nod. CCLA officials who were transferred to AP will be questioned soon. It was found that the GPA was forged in the name of Bhagwandas Makhija, who died in 1995. Laxminarayana obtained the GPA in 1996.

The fee has to be paid as per the AP (Agricultural Produce and Livestock) Markets Act 1996, by the purchaser for the notified agricultural produce, livestock or products of livestock.
