Bengaluru: A man hacked a class 10 student to death in broad daylight on Wednesday after she rejected his love proposal and he later attempted to suicide by consuming poison. The incident took place in Rojipura in Doddaballapur police station limits in Bengaluru rural.
The deceased has been identified as Keerthana, 16, a resident of Rojipura. She was killed by her cousin Naveen V, while she was on her way to the school.
The police said that after killing her, he rushed to his house and consumed poison. He was rushed to the nearby hospital and later shifted to the Victoria hospital for treatment. He condition is said to critical, the police said.
According to the police, Keerthana’s elder sister got married to Naveen’s younger brother one-and-half years ago, and since then Naveen wanted to marry Keerthana.
He had approached her parents who had agreed, but told him to wait till she turned 18. However, Keerthana was opposed to his proposal.
He later learnt that she was interested in some other man and warned her against continuing the relationship. She, however, ignored his warnings and continued to meet her friend.
On Wednesday morning at 9 am, while she was on her way to school, Naveen confronted her with a long machete and scolded her for not heeding to his warning.
Keerthana got angry, removed her slippers and hit him. An angry Naveen then attacked her with machete and killed her on the spot.
He then rushed to his house and consumed poison. The neighbours and passerby immediately rushed them to the nearby hospital where Keerthana was declared brought dead.
Doddaballapur town police have registered a case and begun investigation.
