Visakhapatnam: Kancharapalem police arrested an armed reserve assistant sub inspector (ASI)’s son on Wednesday for cheating his wife. Police said Konathala Bharti (25), a resident of Durganagar in Kancharapalem, worked in a fertiliser shop in Sujatanagar of Pendurthi. She met Chittipina Srikanth (29), son of ASI Ch. Govinda Rao, from Srikrishnapuram in Arilova area.

Srikanth convinced Bharti that he loved her. He married her at Srikrishnapuram without informing anyone. When Bharti became pregnant, she asked Srikanth to marry her in front of everyone. They then got married at Bangaramma temple in Simhachalam on November 18. Srikanth then started forcing Bharti to abort her pregnancy to which she did not agree.

Srikanth threatened her saying his mother would die if Bharti delivered the baby. Against her will, she got an abortion done at a private hospital in Dandu Bazaar on November 22.

Later, Bharti realised that Srikanth had started living with another woman. When she questioned him, he beat her up severely. Following this, Bharti complained to the Kancharapalem police. Police arrested Srikanth, produced him in court, which remanded him to jail. Kancharapalem circle inspector N. Sai is investigating the case.
