Crores being bet on high-octane poll results
Hyderabad: Notorious syndicates and punters, who are into cricket betting, have shifted focus to the Assembly elections money-spinner. A majority of bettings were reportedly received from Andhra Pradesh. Hundreds of crores have already been placed on political parties and individuals.
Meanwhile, not to be found wanting, law enforcement agencies, especially special police teams, have kept a close vigil on previous offenders, who organised betting activities in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh. Interestingly, some businessmen from Karnataka are also involved in making a fast buck on Telangana election results.
A senior police officer, who has probed several similar cases previously, said that even though there were no complaints as yet, they have kept a close watch on notorious cricket betting gangs.
Sources said that sweepstakes were more on the prospects of BRS and Congress and the fate of candidates fighting for the Khammam, Palair, Gajwel, Kamareddy and Huzurabad seats, which feature big guns.
Apart from tapping social media, some organisers have allegedly designed special mobile apps to monitor the election results. It is likely that the punters will be more active in the next two to three days.
Incidentally, Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao is in the fray at Gajwel and Kamareddy, TPCC chief A. Revanth Reddy locks horns with Rao in the latter and BJP’s Etala Rajendar is pitted against Rao in Gajwel.
