Five of Family in Anakapalli Commit Suicide Due to Debt Burden
Visakhapatnam: Four members of a family in Anakapalli ended their lives while the fifth, a girl, is fighting for her survival after a joint suicide attempt. Debt is suspected to be the reason for the extreme action.
Kodavali Ramakrishna, along with his wife Madhavi Devi and their children Veda Vaishnavi and Janvi Lakshmi, passed away after consuming insecticide late on Thursday night. Their youngest, 9-year-old daughter Kusuma Priya survived the ordeal and has been admitted to the NTR Hospital.
The family resided near a local food stall close to the fire station for some time. Initial investigations by the police hinted at the possibility of pesticides being added to the family’s evening meal.
The residents of the apartment said one Lakshmi, who resided in the building previously and maintained ties with this family, had tragically ended her life.
Ramakrishna's older brother arrived in Anakapalli on Friday and said the family had relocated a year and a half ago from Guntur to Anakapalli. Ramakrishna worked in a gold shop. The family was facing a huge debt burden, the brother, as also the police investigating the case, stated.
Police said post-mortem procedures were progressing, after which the bodies will be released to the relatives. A case has been registered.
