Harassed by loan app agents, man ends life
Vijayawada: A man identified as Thangellamudi Rajesh, aged 34 years and working in a private firm, died by suicide at his home at Suraiahpeta in the city on Saturday night. Executives of loan apps through which he had taken loans had been threatening and harassing him for repayment.
According to Bhavanipuram police, Rajesh had taken loans of ₹2,000 and above from nearly 20 to 30 online loan apps over some time. He got into the habit of taking loan from one app company and clearing it by taking a loan from another app firm.
Since some time, he had been unable to clear his loans. Executives of the loan apps started calling him very frequently asking him to clear his dues. When he did not pay up, they allegedly took photographs of his wife, morphed them and posted them to her and Rajesh. They then threatened him to make the photographs viral on social media.
Following the threat, he resorted to the extreme step. Based on a complaint lodged by his father Ayyappa Raju, police have booked a case and an investigation is on.
