Hyderabad: The body of a 45-year-old woman was found inside her apartment in Panjagutta in a highly decomposed state. Police suspects that K. Aruna, might have died around two weeks ago.

On Wednesday, a postman, who came to deliver a registered letter, detected the foul smell and informed the police. Police found that Aruna had been living alone in her flat for around five years after she got divorced from her husband.

The police has not yet confirmed whether she committed suicide or died naturally. The doors were locked from the inside, police officials said. The body was found on the floor inside one of the rooms.

The adjacent flat is vacant. Nobody living in other parts of the building had detected the smell before. Police said that none of the neighbours may have gone near Aruna's flat in the last two weeks.

"The postman, who came to deliver mail, called Aruna several times. When the door was not opened, he inquired with people living in the same building. He also told them that there was a foul smell coming from inside. Then they informed us. We went there, broke open the door and found the decomposed body," said sub inspector K. Gurunath of Panjagutta police station.

A neighbour told the police that Aruna used to buy milk from a street vendor near her apartment and that since two weeks she had not come to get milk. The vendor and other neighbours assumed that she might have gone to her native place in Guntur to meet her parents.

When Panjagutta police called Aruna's parents they said they were not aware of her death as she rarely called them. Police said they could not find any suicide note in the flat. The police booked a suspicious death case and launched an investigation.
