Kunnukuzhy case: 3 more held for film director's murder

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Three more accused in the murder of telefilm director Saibin Smith, 22, have landed  in police  custody.  Saibin Smith of Kunnukuzhy near Palayam had died on April 25 due to injuries suffered during an assault  by a gang on March 22.

One of the accused was  arrested and remanded after the High Court denied him anticipatory bail. Two others were arrested from Tamil Nadu on Friday. The victim’s brother had a business rivalry with one of the accused that led to the attack in which the kidney and intestines of Smith were ruptured.

As all the accused barring two went absconding, the locals had staged a protest carrying the body before the Museum police station. With this, the special probe team intensified the investigation and arrested sixth and seventh accused Robin, 24, and Kishore, 22, from Manavalakurichi in coastal Tamil Nadu on Friday.

The fourth accused Sibi Stanley of Gowreesha Pattom moved an anticipatory bail in the  High Court and the police will seek his custody on Saturday. Though there were no eyewitnesses to  the attack that happened past midnight, the police had taken the dying declaration of Saibin which will be crucial in the case.
One of the accused, Sanjay Varma, a history-sheeter,  was earlier accused of attacking MLA Wahid among other crimes.
