Man held for 10 thefts of autos in Hyderabad

Hyderabad: An inter-state auto rickshaw thief was nabbed by police on Friday.
Aziz Khan is believed to have stolen as many as 10 vehicles and after concealing their original registration, and after replacing the engines, he rented the vehicles to drivers on a daily basis. Police have seized 10 vehicles, worth around Rs 7 lakh from his possession. Additional DCP South Zone K. Babu Rao said the Khan 32, a resident of Jahanuma used to work as an auto driver.
“But due to his poor financial condition, he decided to earn some extra money by committing thefts of autorickshaws. He targeted vehicles parked outside restaurants, event halls, railway stations and bus stations. And after committing the theft, he would take the vehicles to his house and smudge the chassis of the vehicle and replace the engine and the number registrations to hide original identity of the vehicle,” Mr Babu Rao said.
And after modifying a vehicle, he would rent it to another auto driver for a daily rent of Rs 300. He also committed thefts of vehicle in Hyderabad, Cyberabad areas and Mahabubnagar district and even in Gulbarga district in Karnataka. Aziz was nabbed during a routine vehicle check at Falaknuma police station limits on Thursday night. After a probe he confessed everything to officials.
The ten recovered vehicles have been seized by cops.
