Bhubaneswar: Youth branded informer, killed
The victim was identified as Trilochan Taria.
Bhubaneswar: A group of Maoists shot dead a youth at Khuripani village in Khaprakhol area of Odisha’s Bolangir district late on Sunday night, accusing him to be a police informer.
The victim was identified as Trilochan Taria.
According to reports, around 20 armed Maoists arrived at the village and shot him dead on the road. The extremists left posters at the spot before fleeing the place. In the posters, the left wing extremists wrote that Taria and some other villagers were earlier associated with the Maoists, but betrayed them later on by becoming police informers.
The police seized the posters and started investigation into the incident.
“Late Sunday night about 20 armed Maoists raided Khuripani village of Khaprakhol block of Bolangir and called a youth named Trilochan Taria out of his home. The rebels then shot him point blank, killing him on the spot,” Bolangir SP K. Sivasubramani said.
Earlier on Saturday night, Maoists carried out an identical hit in neighbouring Kandhamal where they shot dead a contractor on similar charges.
Kailash Digal of Damangpadar village under Phiringia police station area was called out of his home by Maoists and then shot dead immediately.
The Maoists had left a poster which said “You can get bail from jail, but be prepared to face bullets, if you act smart.”
Both Bolangir and Kandhamal are Maoist-affected districts. There had been heavy security deployment for elections to the Bolangir and Kandhamal Lok Sabah seats which went to the polls in the second phase.
On April 18, Sanjukta Digal, a woman poll supervisor was shot dead by Maoists near Barhala village of Kandhamal district when she and four others polling officials got down from their vehicle suspecting landmines were planted on the road ahead.
