Bengaluru: A woman shopkeeper was duped by a fake policeman, who advised her to keep her gold jewellery safe and later escaped with a chain at Raghuvanahalli in Thalaghattapura police limits on Sunday morning.
Sumathi, a condiment shop owner, was approached by a man, who claimed to be a cop, around 9 am on Sunday. After having a glass of buttermilk, he returned for a cigarette. He warned her about robberies in the locality.

Asking her to be careful with her belongings, he advised that she keep her gold chain in the cash drawer as a precaution. Sumathi took his advice. When she checked the drawer after he left, she noticed that her gold chain weighing 55 gm was missing. “It is not yet clear how he diverted the attention of the woman and flicked the gold chain. We are investigating it and are also trying to establish the identity of the miscreant by verifying CCTV footage in the locality,” the Thalaghattapura police, who have registered a case, said.
