Thiruvananthapuram: Vithura police has registered a case against a 40-year-old history sheeter for allegedly raping a 28-year-old at gunpoint on Sunday.  The woman approached the police after the man made another attempt on Tuesday.  The police identified the accused as Shaji alias Pothu Shaji.  The victim was the live-in partner of his friend.

As per the police, only her children aged two and four were present in the house when he assaulted her. Shaji brandished a locally made airgun to scare the victim.  On Tuesday, he again reached there, and woman’s live-in partner left in a hurry to make way for the accused to rape her. Shaji slapped her and tried to assault when she raised the alarm.  The police has launched a manhunt for the man, arrested several times under the provisions of Kerala Antisocial Activities (Prevention) Act (KAAPA).
