SALEM: In a tragic development, the mutilated body of a woman was found on a railway track near Kondalamptti in Salem in the early hours of Saturday, sending shock waves across the steel town. Police are on the lookout for the alleged murder of the woman believed to be in her mid-40s’.
While police on information rushed to the spot, retrieved the mutilated body of the woman and sent it to the Mohan Kumaramangalam government hospital here, preliminary investigations by Kondalampatti police show that the woman victim was allegedly beheaded by her paramour, who is now on run.
Police have tentatively identified the deceased woman as Muniyammal (48), a resident of Kondalampatti. Married to one Swaminathan and mother of three children, Muniyammal is believed to have separated from her husband some years back and was living with a construction worker Senthil Kumar, police said.
Senthil Kumar and Muniyammal had frequent verbal quarrels, as the former of late had suspected his lover to be developing intimacy with another person, police claimed. On Friday night, both Muniyammal and Senthil Kumar, after consuming liquor, were involved in a heated exchange following which an enraged Senthil Kumar allegedly chopped off her head and threw the torso on the railway track and fled. Further investigations are on.
