Hyderabad: Ex-techie held for conning people
When the victims try contacting him over phone to take their cameras back, he would simply switch off his phone and avoid them.
Hyderabad: An ex-software employee was apprehended for conning people on OLX by renting out costly, high-end DSLR cameras and selling them to others.
The police seized Rs 7 lakh worth cameras and accessories from him on Wednesday. He left his job as a software professional and become a computer trainer to avoid camera owners, police said, adding that he would switch off his phone and change numbers to avert them.
According to the police, T. Vinod Kumar Reddy, 32, left his job as a senior associate at Genpact in Gachibowli and started working as a computer trainer at SVR School in NBT Nagar of Banjara Hills.
Reddy hatched a plan to earn easy money by taking costly cameras on rent from OLX and selling them to others.
“He takes the camera on rent for 2-3 months by paying an amount as advance and submitting his ID proof and phone number. When the victims try contacting him over phone to take their cameras back, he would simply switch off his phone and avoid them. When the camera owners tried to approach him at his office in Gachibowli, they found that he had left that job and started working as a trainer in SVR School,” said DCP, Commissioner’s Task Force, P. Radha Kishan Rao.
Acting on a tip-off, the West Zone Task Force team apprehended him and recovered nine digital cameras, all worth Rs 7 lakh from his possession and handed him over to SR Nagar Police for further investigation.
