Slab collapse kills AP student, Oppn demands Rs 25 lakh compensation

NELLORE: Blaming the government for the death of an 11-year-old student in a slab collapse at an elementary school in Rajupalem village of Markapuram mandal on Sunday, TD and Jana Sena leaders on Monday staged a protest along with the boy’s body demanding Rs 25 lakh compensation to the bereaved family.
After consoling the parents of the deceased, Vishnu Kumar, they said that it was the duty of the government to rescue the family in distress. They also demanded the government to demolish the building and construct a new one in its place.
The protestors relented after the mandal education officer Nayak assured ex-gratia to the family after discussing with the district educational officer.
Meanwhile, education minister Adimulapu Suresh has ordered immediate demolition of school buildings that are in a dilapidated condition. He directed officials to identify all such vulnerable structures that houses schools.
