Inter-faith couple abused in Hyderabad, 3 booked
Three minors were booked for wrongful restraint, promoting enmity, public nuisance, offence in place of worship, criminal intimidation
Hyderabad: Jubilee Hills police booked three teenagers for allegedly harassing a youngster belonging to a different community, after they found a girl from their community accompanying him, the police said.
A video of the incident, which took place last Saturday, went viral on social media platforms, following which the police registered a suo motu case and traced the trio. The police said all three were minors and college drop-outs.
The three minors were booked under for wrongful restraint, promoting enmity, public nuisance, offence in place of worship and criminal intimidation.
Police said the trio, residents of Chandrayangutta, was out on a ride and stopped at Road No. 45 of Jubilee Hills to seek directions towards Golconda from the youngster and his friend, who were also on a bike.
The police said that the trio ascertained from their accents that the youngster and the girl were from different communities, following which they confronted the couple. They abused and threatened them, as seen in the video, following which the couple fled the spot, the police said.
One of the teenagers recorded the act on his mobile phone and circulated it on social media platforms.
Jubilee Hills station house office P. Ravindra Prasad said notices were served to the boys and also to the father of one of them, for allowing them to use his scooter. A chargesheet will be filed in the court after completing the investigation, he said.
