ANANTAPUR: In a barbaric incident, CK Dinne police arrested a person who killed his wife and tried to claim the insurance amount at Busireddypalli in Kadapa district on Monday.

Police sources said Gajjala Rama Subba Reddy of Busireddy Palli married Malleswari 25 years ago. Reddy depended on the earnings of his wife who was a farm labourer.

In addition, he purchased land and house sites in the village by taking loans from private lenders. They forced him to repay the money. The value of the purchased house sites and lands declined due to a steep fall in real estate trade during the past few months and his debts reached a total of Rs 6 lakh.
Malleswari was forcing her husband to clear the debts by selling the lands.

Rama Subba Reddy hatched a plan to clear his debts by insuring his wife and repaying after her death through insurance claims. He insured his wife for Rs 6 lakh and set her on fire by opening the LP gas cylinder connection on October 20. He fled soon after the flames engulfed his wife. Locals shifted her to the Kadapa RIMS hospital and she died the next day due to serious burn injuries. CK Dinne police registered a case.
