BENGALURU: A 22-year-old woman, along with her husband, allegedly murdered her 55-year-old mother for complaining that chicken curry was not tasty enough! The incident was reported in Kitthaganur in Avalahalli police station limits on the city outskirts.
The deceased has been identified as Munirathnamma, who was working as a domestic help. Her daughter, Soumya and son-in-law Veeranna, 24, have been arrested by the police and remanded to judicial custody.
Veeranna was working in KR Inn hotel as supervisor while his wife was a housekeeping staff there. They fell in love and got married three years ago. They also have a one-year-old daughter.
According to the police, the family members usually consumed alcohol together. On Sunday, they had attended the Ekta Samavesha organised by the BJP at Palace Grounds.
They got Rs 400 for attending it and had bought chicken and alcohol while returning home. In the night, they were reportedly consuming alcohol together and Munirathnamma reportedly scolded Soumya for not preparing the curry well and complained it was not tasty.
“The couple got enraged over her comment and engaged in an argument with her. Neighbours had interfered and had brought Veeranna out. However, around 2 am on Monday, Veeranna entered the house and strangled Munirathnamma to death, while her daughter held her legs so that she would not resist. The incident came to light in the morning and the accused were arrested immediately,” the Avalahalli police, who have registered a case, said.
