Andhra Pradesh: Attack on woman raises rivalry doubt

The woman was living alone following differences with husband and family quarrels.

A 6-man gang intercepted him as he was riding in Mannadi, picked up an argument and started attacking him with weapons.

Anantapur: An aanganwadi worker suffered serious injuries after a group of her rivals attacked her with sickles near Rampuram in Pedavadugur mandal in the district on Wednesday. Her right palm was severed during as a result of the attack. She fell down on the spot. Police said B.Haripriya, 36, of Appecherla village had three children. She had some differences with her husband for the past few years. There have been family related quarrels between Haripriya and her husband Narendra Reddy along with his sisters.

Haripriya was residing separately. On Wednesday when she was on way to the aanganwadi centre when she was waylaid by a group of rivals led by the sons of her husband's sister, Bhaskar Reddy, Narapa Reddy and Vijaya Bhaskar Reddy who attacked her with sickles. Haripriya suffered serious injuries as her right palm was cut off during the attack.

Peddavadugur police rushed to the spot and shifted her to Anantapur general hospital. A case was registered against the husband of Haripriya. It also included Bhaskar Reddy, Narapa Reddy and Vijaya Bhaskar Reddy. The case based on complaint by the victim. Police ruled out possibilities of factional rivalry in connection with the attack.

However, YSRC cadres alleged the attack was connected with factional rivalry as part of mounting pressure on Vijayabhaskar Reddy family members to compromise in his murder case in Appecherla village. Haripriya was the sister of slain Vijayabhaskar Reddy. "The attacks on YSRCP activists and sympathisers are continuing unabated in Tadpatri region of Anantapur district. Tadpatri is represented by JC Prabhakar Reddy, brother of local MP JC Diwakar Reddy", YSRC leader Pedda Reddy alleged.
