Vijayawada: The picture published in these columns on November 24 showing an autorickshaw overloaded with children and the driver talking on the cellphone while driving had its impact on Wednesday. Officials of the Road Transport Authority traced the autorickshaw and seized the vehicle. The driver was also traced on the basis of the photograph, and his licence was seized.

RTA officials took a serious view of the driver’s traffic rule violation, and deployed two inspector-cadre officers to trace the vehicle which was carrying students from St. John School. Mr Meera Prasad, DTC, appreciated Deccan Chronicle photographer Ch. Narayana and said the photograph alerted them. “We are serious about cracking down on such irresponsible drivers,” he said.
