Anantapur: A woman and her husband, who was an ex serviceman and a retired bank employee, suffered serious injuries after unidentified assailants attacked them at Vijayanagar Colony in Tadipathri town in this district on Wednesday.
According to the police, Rama Devi was putting rangoli in front of her house in the early hours on Wednesday as part of holy Karthikamasam. Two men came on a motorcycle and tried to grab her gold chain.
Rama Devi ran into the house, hid in the kitchen and shouted for help. The assailants entered the kitchen and tried to grab her gold chain. They stabbed her with a sharp knife.
In the meantime, her husband Venkatrami Reddy, who was sleeping, rushed to the kitchen and resisted the duo. They attacked him and fled from the spot after leaving the knife.

After the couple shouted for help, nearby people rushed to the spot and alerted the Tadipatri urban police.
Police shifted the duo with an ambulance to Tadipathri government hospital. From there, the doctors referred the case to Anantapur.
