Hyderabad: A joyride by a 19-year-old youth led to a major mishap on the road near Sheikpet in Jubilee Hills on Monday morning. His Tata Bolt car rammed a group of nursing students waiting for bus on the roadside, injuring all of them. As many as 11 students were injured while two students have serious fractures, police said.

The youth, N. Srikant, is a college dropout. He took his father’s car out for a drive. “Along the way, he inadvertently pressed the accelerator instead of the brake and then could not control the vehicle. He was already overspeeding,” said a police officer from Banjara Hills.

Srikanth’s father, a taxi driver, has been using the vehicle. “His father parked the car at their house and was sleeping when the boy took it out. Srikant has a driving licence and was not drunk,” police said.

The victims, students of a nursing college, had visited Apollo Hospital as part of their curriculum, and were standing on the roadside while returning to their college. Police has confiscated the car and arrested Srikant for negligent driving.
