Perumbavoor rape accused Ameerul Islam seeks bail
The prosecution had foisted and fabricated the story as per its whims and fancies, the petition stated.
Kochi: Ameerul Islam, the sole accused in the Perumbavoor rape and murder case, on Monday approached the High Court seeking bail. The petitioner submitted that the trial was getting delayed as the prosecution witnesses had challenged the investigation and filed petitions before the HC. The prosecution had foisted and fabricated the story as per its whims and fancies, the petition stated.
Ameerul, 23, hailing from Assam's Nagaon district, was taken into custody from Tamil Nadu on June 16 last year after he had evaded arrest for nearly 50 days. He had left Perumbavoor soon after committing the crime on April 28, 2016, the police said. Ernakulam Principal Sessions Court, which is considering the case, had earlier rejected the bail application.
