ERODE: The Gobichettipalayam police on Friday arrested Tirupur MP Sathyabama's husband Vasu on charges of attempting to murder his wife in the wake of a family feud and strained relations with her

Police said that Ms. Sathyabhama, residing with her son Sathyavasanth at Sri Nagar here since she separated from her husband few years ago following a domestic feud, continued to face rough weather with Vasu's remarks on her in social media embarrassing her and turning controversial.

Meanwhile, Ms Sathyabama, who had planned to get engaged to another person in Coimbatore on Friday, was in for a rude shock on Thursday night when Vasu allegedly barged into the MPs' house with a knife and picked up a quarrel. Relatives of the woman MP and neighbours caught hold of Vasu and handed him over to the police.

In a complaint to the Gobichettipalayam police, the AIADMK MP's brother Shanmugaprabhu alleged that Vasu tried to stab his sister. According to him, he also tried to stab him and Sathyavasanth, when they tried to rein in Vasu.

Police booked Vasu under IPC sections 294(b) and 506 (2) on charges of attempt to murder. He was produced in the judicial magistrate court here and the judge remanded him to judicial custody for 15 days.
