Bengaluru: Fed-up with husband’s addiction to alcohol, a 23-year-old woman committed suicide by hanging at her mother’s residence in Basaveshwaranagar police station limits on Tuesday.
The deceased has been identified as Gauri, a resident of Manjunathnagar. According to police, five years ago Gauri got married to Venkatesh, a daily wage worker, and had a troubled married life owing to Venkatesh’s alcoholism.
“The duo fought over the issue many times as Venkatesh skipped work for months and stayed at home in inebriated form. He troubled Gauri and even assaulted her when she insisted him to go for work and quit drinking alcohol,” the police said. About six months ago, Gauri left Venkatesh, after he did not pay heed to her pleas, and began staying at her mother’s house. On Tuesday, she decided to hang herself when her mother had gone out for work. The incident came to light when Gauri’s mother returned at around 5.30 pm, police added.
