Karnataka: Ugandan woman held with cocaine worth Rs 1 crore
After the arrest Aisha was produced before a local NCB court and remanded in judicial custody.
Bengaluru: The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB), Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana on Monday night arrested a 27-year-old Ugandan woman at Bengaluru Cantonment Station after they seized 200 gm of cocaine, worth around Rs 1 crore, from her possession.
“On credible information we intercepted Aisha Manutebi, a Ugandan national at the Cantonment station and seized cocaine from her possession. She had arrived in Bengaluru from New Delhi by Karnataka Express and was carrying the contraband narcotic drug, which was concealed in a sealed ear phone box,” said an official source.
Aisha reportedly told the NCB sleuths that a lady had handed the consignment to her in Delhi and told her to hand it over to someone, who will call her once she reached Bengaluru. “She said that she didn't know the lady, who had given her the packet with the contraband,” the officer added.
Aisha told the NCB officials that she had come to India on a student visa and had deposited her passport and Indian visa with the Ugandan Embassy in Delhi.
“This is false claim. Almost all the foreigners, who have been caught in the drug trade, have either been found without a valid passport or are staying in the country in violation of their visa rules.
Their plea has always been that they have deposited their documents with their embassies in India, which is not true,” the officer said.
He added that many of them have gone missing after they were enlarged on bail. After the arrest Aisha was produced before a local NCB court and remanded in judicial custody.
