KARIMNAGAR: A businessman, native of Chaithanyanagar in Metpally town of Jagtial district, ended his life in Hyderabad on Wednesday while recording a selfie video accusing his close associate of cheating him.

According to police, the deceased, Sabbani Naresh, has a two-wheeler showroom in Kathalapur mandal of Jagtial district. His associate Pratap had been working with him in promoting sales of the two-wheelers. Pratap proposed a lucky draw scheme of vehicles believing which the two started a new firm called Bhavani Enterprises.

They successfully ran the scheme twice, handing over around 350 bikes to customers and collecting ₹1.9 crore. However, Pratap stopped paying Naresh the money collected. The former also started a campaign against Naresh that the latter will wind up the company and declare insolvency.

In the interim, Naresh could not make payments as all the money had been with Pratap. Naresh decided to end his life after recording a video giving the background and hoping that Pratap would at least clear the payments after his death.

The video has gone viral on various social media platforms, creating a sensation in Jagtial district. Naresh’s wife Rupa Sri and brother-in-law Chandrasekhar have lodged a complaint with police, who have registered a case.

Police are trying to trace the place where Naresh ended his life in Hyderabad, as he had been hiding without disclosing his location to his family members, relatives or friends.

Police have also launched a manhunt for Pratap, who is absconding.
