Kerala police to file chargesheet on Ameerul Islam in two weeks
According to sources, the investigation team is finalising the investigation report in the case.
Kochi: The police team probing the Perumbavur rape and murder case will file the chargesheet in the case in two weeks. The police will file the chargesheet against Ameerul Islam, the sole accused in the case. According to sources, the investigation team is finalising the investigation report in the case. At present Ameerul is under police custody.
The other day the court had granted permission to Ameerul’s relatives to visit him. It asked the authorities to follow the jail manual and provide benefits for the accused. Meanwhile, the mother and sister of the victim appeared before the court on Saturday to identify the belongings of the victim. The two identified the belongings including books and dresses recovered by the cops from the makeshift house on the banks of a canal.
Ameerul was arrested on June 16. Ameerul is eligible for mandatory bail if the police file chargesheet in 90 days. Ameerul evaded arrest for nearly 50 days and it was an Herculean task for the cops to arrest him. 23-year-old Ameerul hailing from Assam's Nagaon district, was taken into custody from Tamil Nadu. Police had questioned over 1,500 people and had collected the fingerprints of over 5,000 people. Police claim that there examined over 20 lakh telephonic conversations.
