3 jackals killed with explosive laced chicken meat
Hearing report of the blast, Karnataka villagers catch one of the two poachers
Chitradurga: Two men killed three jackals by baiting them with chicken meat laced with an explosive powder in a Karnataka village last Saturday. The explosive material blew up when the wild animals tried to eat the meat and ripped apart their jaws.
Jackals are small wild animals which live in field burrows.
The incident took place at Basappa Malagi, a village in Hiriyur taluka of Chitradurga district. One of the two persons has been arrested while the other is on the run.
The Hiriyur range forest officer Sriharsha said it’s known what explosive material it was but seemed to be similar to the material used to poach wild boar.
Villagers head the sound of the explosion and caught one of the two men. He has been identified as Bijju, a native of Koratagare in Tumakuru district.
Sriharsha said Bijju and his friend were both tattoo makers and used their spare time to poach animals. The use of explosives indicated that they are habitual poachers, he added.
