Hyderabad: A sexagenarian succumbed to injuries on Tuesday after an alleged attack with a sickle by her son-in-law four days ago over a family dispute.

The deceased, identified as Mallamma, 65, a resident of Vikarabad, came to her daughter Bachamma's residence at Brahma Shankar Colony of Jubilee Hills on October 25 to help and settle a family dispute with her husband Venkataiah.

“When Bachamma had gone for work and left Venkataiah at home, he started hitting his daughter Mounika over some issue and Mallamma objected to it. In a fit of rage, Venkataiah attacked her too with a sickle, resulting in grievous head injuries,” Jubilee Hills police Inspector C. Harishchandra said.

Local residents took her to a private hospital where she breathed her last. The Jubilee Hills police, who had already registered a case under Section 307 (attempt to murder) of IPC, altered it to 302 (murder) and continued the investigation. The suspect is on the run, the police said.
