Hyderabad: Woman held for marriage fraud
Believing her, Dilpreeth transferred Rs 3.36 lakh to her friend's bank account. After receiving money, the woman avoided him.
Hyderabad: A 42-year-old woman from Mumbai who allegedly cheated a retired colonel's family to the tune of Rs 3.36 lakh on the pretext of refunding the money was arrested by the Rachakonda cyber crime police on Tuesday and remanded to judicial custody.
In his complaint to the Rachakonda cyber crime police, Retired Army colonel Bhupinder Singh said that he had created a profile of his son on Defence Matrimony site, in search of a suitable bride. After some days, he received a call from one Riddhima Kalsy, claiming to be a Neurosurgeon from Mumbai, expressing interest.
Later, the colonel’s son Dilpreeth Singh and the woman continued being in contact. One day, the woman asked Dilpreeth to give some money towards the expenses of her grandfather's treatment, as she has Non-Resident External and Non-Resident Ordinary accounts and could not withdraw money.
Believing her, Dilpreeth transferred Rs 3.36 lakh to her friend’s bank account. After receiving money, the woman avoided him.
Rachakonda police said the team has traced the woman to Vashi area in Navi Mumbai. She has been identified as Reema Sandhu, a voice and accent trainer at a BPO. In order to earn easy money, Reema indulged in the fraud.
She was produced before a court at Mumbai and brought to the city on transit warrant and remanded to judicial custody, said the police.
