Hyderabad: Rapist gets lifer under POCSO Act

The court directed the accused to undergo life imprisonment for the offence and pay Rs 5,000 towards fine.

Hyderabad: A 57-year-old watchman who raped a three-year-old girl at RC Puram under Cyberabad commissionerate limits was convicted by the first additional district sessions court.

The court directed the accused to undergo life imprisonment for the offence and pay Rs 5,000 towards fine.

The accused, Palthewar Srinivas, 57, a watchman was arrested on December 31, 2017.

The girl who had gone along with her parents to a vegetable market had gone missing.

Srinivas, who was returning home after consuming alcohol, saw the girl weeping at a roadside and approached her.

He offered her a biscuit and took her behind some bushes and raped her.

While leaving the spot, locals saw the girl weeping and caught Srinivas before he tried to flee and handed over to the police.

A case was subsequently registered against the accused under sections 366 (A), 376 (1) of IPC and sections 4 and 6 of the POCSO Act.

The Cyberabad police said that after investigating the case, a chargesheet was filed.

The first additional district sessions court at Sangareddy conducted a trial and on Wednesday gave judgment convicting accused Srinivas.

The accused was directed to undergo life imprisonment and was asked to pay Rs 5,000 towards the fine.
