Jharkhand gang being tracked: Muthoot heist
Surveillance has been strengthened on possible booty receivers.
Hyderabad: Cyberabad police has hit upon vital clues about the men involved in the Muthoot finance firm robbery, and a gang based in Jharkhand is being tracked. The men are suspected to have visited the branch as customers to conduct a recce. The Scorpio vehicle used by them has been traced to Karnataka, and it appears the robbers have escaped from there, police said.
“They must have got into a train and gone to some place in central India. Our teams are searching various hideouts. Surveillance has been strengthened on possible receivers of the booty in Odisha, Jharkhand and other parts of east India,” a police official said.
The Karnataka police too has joined the Cyberabad teams as they are also on the job of solving similar robberies in Kalburgi and Gulbarga recently. There’s a striking similarity with the unsolved case of heist at Muthoot finance in Kalburgi last year, in which the gang used a similar modus operandi to steal Rs 3 crore worth of gold.
On Wednesday morning, a five-member gang of robbers pulled off the biggest gold heists in Telangana history by posing as CBI officials and taking away 40kg of gold from the Muthoot finance firm located at RC Puram.
