 Vijayawada: A differently-abled inebriated man caused a flutter on the streets of Challapalli on Tuesday evening by threatening people with a knife.

Challapalli circle inspector Ch. China Babu said Siva, a resident of Komal Nagar, is a rag picker and ekes out a living selling trash that he collects from roads. He is a habitual drinker who entered into a brawl with his wife after consuming alcohol on Tuesday evening.

Half-naked, he picked up a knife from his house and wandered the streets of Challapalli threatening people.

Police took him into custody, booked a petty case and set him free after counselling him.

A video of the accused holding the knife and threatening people on the streets of Challapalli has gone viral on social media platforms.

8-year-old girl dies after she accidentally falls into pond

An 8-year-old girl died after she accidentally fell in a pond while playing near her residence at Kanuru on Tuesday evening. The police identified the deceased as Arepalli Vagdevi.

According to the police, the victim, Vagedvi, a class II student, had been playing near her home when she accidentally fell into a pond. Vagdevi’s parents, who work in Auto Nagar after returning from work, searched for their daughter as she did not return home in the evening and complained to the Penamaluru police over the disappearance of their daughter.

Based on the parent’s complaint, the Penamaluru police registered a missing case, launched search operations, and pressed in plungers to search for her in the pond on Tuesday evening, but in vain. However, the girl’s body floated up in the pond in the wee hours of Wednesday, the police said, adding that the missing complaint had been altered to Section 174 CrPC.
