MP: Sizzles Under Intense Heat Wave, 2 Die Due to Heat

 Bhopal: Madhya Pradesh was under the grip of an intense heat wave on Friday, turning at least 16 out of 53 districts in the state a burning cauldron.

At least two people died ‘due to heat’ in Bhopal, which sizzled at 45.4 degree Celsius on Monday, in the last 48 hours, police said.

Gwalior-Chambal and Bundelkhand in Madhya Pradesh particularly bore the brunt of the heat wave with mercury breaching the 47 degree Celsius mark in most areas in the two regions.

Data available with the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) here said that Datia in Gwalior-Chambal region recorded the highest temperature of 47.4 degree Celsius in the state on Friday.

Other cities in the region, Guna, Gwalior, and Shivpuri recorded 47.2 degree Celsius, 46.7 degree Celsius and 46 degree Celsius respectively.

Similarly the cities in Bundelkhand region such as Damoh, Chhatarpur, and Shajapur recorded temperatures of 47.2 degree Celsius, 46.8 degree Celsius and 46.6 degree Celsius respectively.

Khajuraho, a tourist hotspot, recorded 47.2 degree Celsius.

Temperature hovered between 41 degree Celsius to 47 degree Celsius in 46 out of 53 degrees in the state, IMD sources said.

At least 16 districts in the state sizzled under intense heat waves with mercury hovering in the range of 45 degree Celsius - 46.8 degree Celsius there.

Bhopal recorded 45.4 degree Celsius on Friday, the highest temperature recorded in the city in the last one decade.

Meanwhile, police said that two people died ‘due to heat’ in Bhopal in the last 48 hours.

One of the dead appeared to be a beggar and his body was found on the street in the city, police said.

A 50-year-old man felt uneasy and was rushed to a hospital where he was declared dead, police said.
