Visakhapatnam: 20-Year-Jail for Raping Granddaughter

 Visakhapatnam: A Posco court has convicted and sentenced a 65-year-old man, V Shyam Sundara Rao, to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment for sexually assaulting his 12-year-old grand-daughter in 2017. The court also slapped a fine of Rs 5 lakh on him.

According to prosecution, Sundar Rao under Malkapuram police station limits, repeatedly raped his granddaughter and threatened her with dire consequences if she revealed this to anyone. “Sundar Rao raped the Class-VI student when she doing her homework in a room on the second floor of their residence. The victim raised an alarm,” it said.

The Malkapuram police registered a case under sections 376 of IPC and sections under POCSO Act-2012. The police arrested the accused and filed a charge sheet against him. Passing the verdict, the court of G Anandini ordered that the fine amount be paid to the victim.
