Separate body to cut, restore roads: KJ George
Those wanting to dig roads have to deposit money with BBMP.
BENGALURU: With an intention to curb the inconveniences caused due to road cutting by BBMP, BWSSB and Bescom, the state government is planning to setup a separate agency which will do the road cutting and restoration work, said Bengaluru Development Minister K.J. George.
He was speaking after inspecting ongoing works taken up civic agencies at Palace Road, Jayamahal, Kumara Park West Railway Road on Saturday.
"To carry out various developmental works roads are being dug up. While Bescom is digging the road to lay electric cables, BWSSB is digging to lay water and sewage pipelines. The public are put to lot of inconvenience as works related to restoring the dug up roads by the civic agencies are getting delayed,” George said.
From now onwards, the works of digging and relaying roads will be handed over to a separate private agency. Any civic agency that wants to dig roads should first deposit the charges for road cutting and restoration in advance to BBMP. Later the agency will do the road digging and once the work is completed it will restore the road, the minister explained.
George said the same procedure will be applied to private agencies, which want to dig roads.
The Minister lost his cool and charged at officials who failed to provide information he had sought. He directed all officials to come to inspections will every single detail regarding the works completed and on upcoming projects.
