Telangana cops to be trained on modern crimes

Hyderabad: The police will train 24,000 constables this year in several new modules involving cybercrimes, economic offences, tracking criminals digitally and basic forensics.

“The idea is to make police constables sensitive to changing crime patterns. After doing the research and studying the ground situation, the modules are chalked out,” said Charu Sinha, inspector-general (training and legal).

The Telangana police wants the constables to be proficient in modern policing. “The world is transforming into a digital society. Similar chan-ges are witnessed in the crime pattern. A thorough study is being undertaken to design new courses for the new recruits,” said a senior police official.  

Cybercrimes, tracking money transfer routes in offences, crime scene management, and gathering forensic materials will be part of the course. This will be apart from the regular modules covering policing, riot control, court-related work, gender sensitisation, child abuse, human trafficking and weapons training.

Already, a batch of 400 sub-inspectors is undergoing training at the Telangana State Police Academy. There is a good percentage of women cadets. Another batch of 9,000 police constables will pass out from 28 police training centres across the state and will join the regular forces this month. They include 1,000 women who will be joining the civil, armed reserve (AR) and Telangana State Special Police (TSSP).
