BJP's Vijayendra Urges Drought Relief, Slams CM for Minority Focus
Vijayendra calls for drought relief using Direct Bank Transfer, citing successful Central schemes.
Bengaluru: State Bharatiya Janata Party president and MLA B.Y. Vijayendra on Monday made field visits to assess drought in Anagodu and Jamapura villages in Davangere taluk and stated that for the Chief Minister Siddaramaiah appeasement of minorities assumes top priority than coming to the rescue of farmers reeling under drought in the State.
He asked the Chief Minister Siddaramaiah to initiate steps to disburse drought relief amounts by emulating Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s model of Direct Bank Transfer (DBT) cash transfer of various Central schemes to reach the beneficiaries. After assessing drought, Vijayendra said that the cash benefits of Central schemes for beneficiaries have reached without middlemen menace.
He said that a farmer Marulasiddappa lost his jowar crop owing to drought and the farmer had spent about Rs 30,000 an acre to grow jowar and asked the State Government to understand the plight of farmers reeling under drought.
Vijayendra stated that about 500 farmers have ended their lives in the State after the Congress party came to power in the State and asked the Chief Minister to come to their rescue immediately.
Criticising the Chief Minister, he said Siddaramaiah does not seek help from the Central government when it comes to make financial assistance for minorities to a tune of Rs 10,000 crore to develop their colonies but points fingers at Central government to issues confronting farmers.
He said his field visit to assess drought was not an eye wash but to wake-up the State Government to the issues confronting the people and wanted the State Government to act to bail out farmers and not just placing advertisements was enough.
