The campaign by the state government to eradicate illicit liquor is slow menace.
WARANGAL: The campaign by the state government to eradicate illicit liquor menace is slowly and steadily taking effect in the interior sections of the district.
Thorrur, one of the mandals in the district where the sale and production of illicit liquor was rampant is seeing a decline in the production of ID liquor, thanks to the efforts of the excise and police departments who conducted widespread awareness programmes and took strict action against the offenders.
The Thorrur division which also includes Maripeda and Narsim-hulapet mandals has a total 66 villages and 371 hamlets under its purview making it the biggest division in the state.
Excise inspector Chandramohan said that after state government started “Gudu-mba Nirmulana” drive, they have conducted many awareness programmes in the villages explaining the villagers the ill-effects of country liquor.
Together with the police department they have conducted raids and destroyed material and manufacturing centres. Sale of ingredients like black jaggery is banned and cases were filed against the culprits.
