Kerala rules athletics meet

Stays in lead with 139 points on third day.

KOZHIKODE: Kerala middle-distance runners and jumpers had a heyday as the state added 10 more gold medals to the kitty, increasing the total to 20 to stay in lead with 139 points on the third day of the 61st National School Athletic Championship here on Sunday.

Four meet records were set by state athletes  as Anumol Thampi emerged as the star of the day with her second meet record in the championship.

The athlete from Mar Basil HSS Kothamangalam won gold in the 1,500m race, clocking 4:34.08 to break the 11-year-old meet record. She had set another record in the 3,000m race on the opening day of the meet.

Pole vaulter Mariya Jaison signed off from school meets bettering her own record from last yearby clearing 3.50 m in the final attempt.

Race walker KT Neena also had her last school meet but she had to satisfy with only a gold medal.  Anandhu S, set new record in the junior boys high jump by clearing 2.08 m.

Abitha Mary Manuel  set meet record in the 1,500m race, pushing C. Babitha, to second place in the last gasp.
