RSS-CPM clash looms large in Pathiyoor
The areas remained tense since last Onam season following clashes between the two.
ALAPPUZHA: Tension prevailed in Pathiyoor village near Kayamkulam on Sunday, despite heavy police presence, after RSS activist Vishnu, 26, was critically injured by unidentified men. In retaliation, RSS cadres attacked the house of a CPM worker at Eruva injuring his mother, Sathamma. Their condition was said to be stable.
The areas remained tense since last Onam season following clashes between the two. Mr Vishnu is being treated at a private hospital in Kochi while Ms Santhamma is recuperating in the Kayamkulam Taluk Hospital.
Police said no arrests were made so far, and a special team was deployed in the area.
An investigation is underway. Mr Vishnu was attacked near Eruva Junction, while walking on the road, by an eight-member gang. He escaped with deep cuts in his body.
He was first taken to the taluk hospital and later shifted to Kochi, police said. The rival groups continued attacks on houses on Sunday, partially damaging houses of two RSS workers and a CPM man.
Trouble started after the RSS attacked five CPM members during the Onam festival.
