Vijayawada: Former MP and AP special representative Kambampati Rama Mohana Rao, has written to external affairs minister Sushma Swaraj and US ambassador Kenneth Juster over alleged harassment of Indian students in the US.

He told Ms Swaraj that Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu felt the Centre should take immediate steps to stop the harassment of Indian students.

Mr Rao wrote that the students were from a poor background and were being cheated by consultancies into applying for universities whose credentials are under question.

He said that US immigration officers were deporting students who had valid admission into different universities in the US. The students are traumatised as their academic year is ruined and their future is in jeopardy. He requested Ms Swaraj to take the matter up with the US government and issue necessary instructions to the Indian embassy to see that students are not harassed.

He wrote to Ambassador Juster, on behalf of Mr Naidu, requesting immediate steps to stop harassment of students and to see that they are not punished for no fault of theirs.
