AIADMK supporters, DMK councillors clash, five injured

Five persons including three AIADMK members and two DMK members who suffered injuries were treated as outpatients.

Chennai: AIADMK supporters and DMK councillors of Tambaram municipality clashed with bricks and fruits in full public view after the latter along with Congress councillors walked out of the council meeting on the grounds that they were not allowed to raise a corruption case against the civic body.

DMK councillors, while coming out of the council, raised slogans against the ruling members and council chairman M. Karikalan.  AIADMK supporters waiting outside the council raised counter-slogans. 

A wooden club was volleyed on the DMK lot triggering a clash. Both groups threw bricks at each other. They switched to fruits grabbed from the vendors on Muthurangan street after they ran out of bricks.  Policemen posted for security intervened and brokered peace among the rivals. 

Five persons including three AIADMK members and two DMK members who suffered injuries were treated as outpatients. Complaint and counter-complaint were lodged with police.
