Coimbatore girl excels in Asian Roll Ball championship

Coimbatore: When C S Mahimasree was introduced to Roll Ball, by her sports teacher, little did she realise that a couple of years down the line, she will be part of the winning team of the Asian Roll Ball Championship.
To her credit she is the only player from the south to participate in the Indian team at the third Asian Roll Ball Championship 2019 that was recently organised in Belguam.
On her return, her coach V Rajasekar who also serves as secretary of Coimbatore Roll Ball Association addressed the media. Terming Mahimasree a 'star player' he said, "she mastered the game in a short span of time. Having represented the state and nation she has won more than a dozen medals in various state and national tournaments."
She has also captained the Indian team during the Invitational Tournament at Sri Lanka and to her credit, the teenager is the first persons from the Coimbatore Roll Ball Association to participate in the Asian Roll Ball Championship.
Mahimasree is currently pursuing her class IX at a private school. Having practiced roller skating, the urge to attempt a new sport prompted the teenager to try Roll Ball which is a mix of speed skating, handball and basketball.
"Combination of three sports, Roll ball requires coordination of team to ensure a win. Despite the sport being recoginised by Sports Development Authority (SDAT) and School Games Federation of India (SGFI), awareness about Roll Ball must increase among students so that more number of boys and girls take up the sport," Rajasekar said.
